There's something you should know about me. I'm very fancy. I love pretty, sparkly things. I spent a good deal of time--from the time I was 15 until I was about 26 trying to deny my girly pinkness. I can't really 'splain it, but I did. Then I became BFFs with Jillian and she helped me shake off the shackles of the past and claim my inner princess.

So, for the past few years I've had a secret inner desire: I want a chandelier over my bed. Yes, a full blown, crystal covered, big honkin' girly chandelier. To be completely and brutally honest, I'd like a bedroom a little like this one:

There are a few problems with this. I don't have the money for a room like this, and I rent my apartment. These two things limit my ability to be as fancy as I'd like.

My mother has embraced my desire for a chandelier even though she cannot imagine how she of all people had a daughter who wants one. She's suggested a few alternatives, but nothing has worked until now.

A couple of weeks ago we were in a little antique store in Hurricane, Utah when I found these beaded wall sconces:

for a really reasonable price. They're a good alternative considering how portable they are while still giving me the sparkly fanciness I crave.

So here they are in my room on either side of my window:

They look good, huh? I also want to share my other bit of fancy:

This wall was made with four sheets of wrapping paper from Papyrus and cost me $10 total. You see, I'm not only fancy, I'm also kinda crafty. And cheap. Another example of my cheap craftiness is this wall:

Where I turned a broken door to an Ikea cabinet into a frame for three pictures I took in England.

You may now be asking yourself, "Why is she telling us this? Does she just want to brag?"

My answer is this: I live alone and only had my dog to share it with. When I asked him if he thought it was pretty this was his response

Which means, "I don't do pretty."

So all I have is you. So, do YOU think it's pretty? Please respond, 'cause I'm not only fancy, I'm also needy.

I think it looks BEAUTIFUL!!! You are not needy, you just need a second opinion and boys are NOT helpful with that. Brie would of loved your bedroom decor, but Wesley...well we know how he is. They miss Austen.

Don't be shy! we all enjoy approval and a pat on the back when we do something crafty, fancy and inexpensive (see how I shy away from that word "cheap")
I'm glad to see you got the other sconce hung.. I was there when Maury was working on hanging them and she had a little trouble with one screw. They look lovely and I am TOTALLY impressed with your cute fancy utterly adorable room.

Love that picture of Austen.

http://ikeahacker.blogspot.com/ I think you should let them know what you are doing. (Just make sure you aren't vague about the type of Ikea cabinet door you are using.

Love it! I love how it looks so put together, but not all matchy-matchy. How you do dat?

& I want to see your Ikea door in person next time I'm in Vegas. Very cool.

I just hate matchy matchy. I sometimes fall flat on my face, but the items in theis room have come together slowly. I still have one wall that needs some love and I'm just waiting to see what I do with it.

But thankyouverymuch for the compliment.

First: your room is GORGEOUS!!! I've always known you were fancy (even during those 18-26 years that I was there for most of), but you've always been funky fancy.
You thought you were hiding your fanciness? As I read this post, my first thought was your flowery peach bedspread. Everything you owned was peach. With flowers on it. Yes, Maury. You've always been fancy. And you do it so well.
I hope you get that chandelier. I really do.

OK, I'm a little late in commenting on this...
I LOVE YOUR FANCY NANCY SIDE! I'm so glad you are finally open about it. It's funny that you didn't think we knew because, c'mon, you REAAALLY loved peach...
I love that you showed pictures of your bedroom and talked about the crafty things you did. I want to see more!
Do I dare tell you that Morgan has a chandelier over her bed...

ok. Now I'm insanely jealous of Morgan. The funny part is that I really don't even like the color peach anymore. Sigh. I'm much more a red and pink girl now.
